Punkzine Style

The reason why I chose to do a 'punkzine' magazine style is because I think the whole hand made feel creates a good impression on the reader.
Most magazines you see and read now are all made on the computer, giving no real handmade touch to it, no lasting impression, just the appearance that the computer has done it all. Whereas if you look at the handmade punkzine style magazines you see the work that people have put into it, some parts are hand written which shows how time consuming the magazine is to make, producing something that looks like a lot of thought and care went into making it. Creating a magazine that looks a bit more battered than your usual computer made magazine shows the reader the amount of work and effort that's gone into making it, they've made it with their hands and not their computers.
You will also find it stands out more compared to a normal magazine because of it's original appearance, it's not all glossy and fancy, it's on a more matte, aged paper, creating a more dated feel and antique look which some people find to be interesting.
There has also been a rise in fanzines, some with computer assistance, others made completely by hand. Created through photocopying or by the people making every magazine by hand from designing to assembling them.
By buying one, which my school did, you get to understand first hand the amount of care and skill that has gone into making one, adding to my high level of appreciation for the work created.
I think using this style of magazine suits the genre of music I am presenting within it as they both reflect each other. I have chosen new and up-coming bands as my magazine genre because this magazine style gives them an extra boost in getting noticed by readers. The unusual look of the magazine attracts the readers eye more from other magazines as they would be more intrigued by the appearance of it, also reflecting the original look with new original music, matching the magazine style and genre perfectly.
These are reasons for why I want to re-create this 'punkzine' look which isn't seen very much anymore, I want to make something for people to hold that feels truly handmade and produces a more vintage and an old dated look as if it's from the 1980's. This to me is when magazines were at their best because you could really see the hard work that went into making them.
